Coast Culinary is always on the hunt for cool new food products or just dependable sources of the hard to find. Meats raised from a specific farm or region, things wild or foraged, seasonal items and any other edible or quaffable item that excites our palate. This isn’t limited to highly focused food “boutiques” either. We’re including supermarkets and roadside stands as well as the fishmonger, fromagerie, butcher, baker and more. It’s about who has those particulars not easily found. We’ve provided glossaries of international goods and where your best chances are of finding them. These might be new creations on the market or cool and rare treasures being stocked on local shelves. Specialty. Bear in mind though that “seasonal” for example potentially means here today, gone tomorrow. By the very nature of what we’re writing about, a specific item you’re seeking may not always be available. This will be current and up-to-date upon posting as well as being revised as often as possible. Always wise however to check with the specific purveyor before starting that 10-hour dish, hinging on one ingredient.
The below glossaries represent an explanation for their smaller, unlabeled thumb versions.
Best overall selection of Asian food products on the Sunshine Coast. If the item you seek isn’t available, they’ll bring it in for you.
GohanYa Japanese Deli
Wilson Creek Plaza
4330 Sunshine Coast Hwy, Sechelt;
This business in Wilson Creek serves take away sushi, Japanese noodle/rice bowls and Japanese dry and prepared goods.
Lone Wolf Provisions
True artisanal bakery and espresso business. All baking is done on-premise with premium ingredients and to a high standard. “Provisions”: sales of flour, espresso, olive oil. Cool factor: they prefer to build their reputation by word of mouth based on the high quality of their product rather than marketing.
Sechelt Fish Market
Fish Monger stocking the standards but with a few items not found elsewhere on the Coast. In the freezer section; Pacific octopus, Scottish kippers and eel fillets. Also stocking premium tinned fish products.
The Gibsons Butcher
We’ll do our best to keep this up to date, adding or changing up vendors or products as seems relevant. We hope to expand the number of options as the food and drink community on the Sunshine Coast grows and evolves.
